In Fern Park, most trimming calls are about laurel oaks over roofs and driveways and neighbors’ oaks hanging over the property line, plus palms that need cleaning up. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Fern Park, or go back to our Fern Park tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.
Oaks lifted off roofs and sidewalks, and broken limbs corrected
Completed trimming jobs from our own records, September 2025–October 2026, listed by the city and ZIP code where the work was done: the same established-lot work Fern Park homes call us for. We never publish customer names or addresses.
- Four front oaks raised and cleaned
Four oaks in the front yard hung over the roof, driveway, sidewalk and street, with deadwood and water sprouts on their trunks. From the lift we raised all four and removed deadwood 2 inches and larger and the trunk sprouts.
- Laurel oak and elm lifted over the sidewalk
A laurel oak beside the house was on the roof and hung low over the sidewalk, and a drake elm needed raising. We cut the oak back to give 6 to 8 feet from the roof, raised it 10 to 15 feet over the sidewalk and yard, and raised and balanced the elm.
- Camphor pruned and thinned off the house
A camphor in the back corner had two limbs over the house and deadwood through the canopy. From the lift we gave it a medium prune and thin, removed the two limbs and cleared deadwood 2 inches and larger.
- Two driveway oaks cleared off the roof
Two front oaks on either side of the driveway had a low lead and downward limbs over the roof and hung over the drive and road. From the lift we thinned both, removed the lead back to the trunk, cleared the roof, raised them over the driveway and road and removed deadwood 2 inches and larger.
- Winged elm and oak lifted off the roof
A winged elm had a long limb over the roof, an oak hung over the roof, and the neighbor had shortened a low oak limb on their side. From the lift we removed the elm limb back to the trunk, raised both trees, thinned returning suckers and checked the limb the neighbor had cut.
- Broken leader removed from a silk tree
A silk tree in back had a broken leader, large deadwood and limbs reaching the house and shed. A climber removed the broken leader and deadwood, selectively thinned and lightened the canopy and kept it even, with nothing over the house or shed.
Laurel oaks and property-line trimming
Laurel oaks over roofs and neighbors’ oaks along the property line are common trimming calls on Fern Park’s established lots. We raise and clear the trees on your property and cut a neighbor’s overhanging limbs back to the line.
A typical scope
- Low limbs raised over the roof, yard and driveway
- Deadwood about 2 inches and larger removed
- Overhanging limbs side-trimmed at the property line
- Old stubbed cuts cleaned up

What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Camphors: kept off the roof and fences; they grow fast.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Pruning standards
Our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards, with no topping or lion-tailing. Trees in a public right-of-way may need the local government’s permission before they’re pruned, so we’ll check that at the estimate.
Arborist oversight
Pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist, and our crews follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. If a tree looks unsafe, a formal risk assessment is available as a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist

Fern Park tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Fern Park?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Seminole County and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you trim branches away from a pool enclosure or roof?
Yes. We prune back to suitable branches to lift limbs off screens, roofs and fences and remove deadwood that could fall on them, following ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
