In Maitland, most trimming calls are about mature oaks over the roof, the lanai and the driveway, and trees that were over-thinned by an earlier trim. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Maitland, or go back to our Maitland tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.
Recent Maitland trimming jobs
From our own job records, September 2025–October 2026. Listed by ZIP code only. We never publish customer names or addresses.
- Limbs cleared off insulated wires
About four limbs and a sucker were growing onto the insulated wires along the back of the property, and two branches reached over the back corner of the house. We removed them from the lift and hauled the debris, and took out two queen palms at the front corner on the same visit.
- Front oak and magnolia pruned
From the lift we removed deadwood 2 inches and larger from the front oak, cleaned up its suckers and made selective weight cuts for structure, then selectively thinned the dense magnolia beside the driveway.
- Neighbor’s dead camphor cut back to the line
A dead camphor in the neighbor’s yard hung over the back corner. A climber cut its limbs back to the property line, and from the lift we raised, balanced and cleaned the camphor at the front corner of the home and cut its limbs back off the house.
- Weight taken off a camphor limb over the roof
A low camphor limb at the front corner was reaching over the roof. From the lift we reduced it back to a lateral lead at the roof edge, removed downward-growing limbs to raise and balance the canopy, and took out deadwood 2 inches and larger.
- Hanging limbs over the road, natural look kept
Four front oaks had dead, broken and hanging limbs over the road, yard and driveway, and the owner wanted to keep their full natural look. From the lift we removed only the deadwood, the hanging limbs and one low limb growing into the oak beside it, working around two septic tanks.
- Crane-assisted trimming before a lanai install
Limbs were growing over the back of the property where a lanai was going in. With crane assistance we cut them back to the property line and trimmed suckers on the oak by the driveway, then removed a cherry laurel near the fence and ground its stump.
What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Over-thinned trees: deadwood and bad cuts corrected, with no further thinning so the canopy can recover.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Pruning standards
Our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards, with no topping or lion-tailing. Trees in a public right-of-way may need the local government’s permission before they’re pruned, so we’ll check that at the estimate.
Arborist oversight
Pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist, and our crews follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. If a tree looks unsafe, a formal risk assessment is available as a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist

We price by the job, not by the hour. Number of trees, canopy height, access and how much clearance work is needed set the price. Trimming several trees in one visit usually costs less per tree. Estimates are free and come as one fixed price in writing.

Maitland tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Maitland?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Maitland, Orange County and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you fix a tree that was over-trimmed?
Often, yes. We clean up bad cuts and deadwood and leave the rest of the canopy alone so the tree can recover. Stripping out more limbs would only stress it further.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
