In Windermere, most trimming calls are about mature live oaks over the roof, the pool enclosure and the driveway, and trees that have closed in a lake view. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Windermere, or go back to our Windermere tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.

- Two oaks raised for the house, driveway and road
An oak at the back corner had low limbs over both houses, the driveway and the road, and a front oak hung over the house. From the lift we raised both for clearance.
- Live oak off the roof, 15 ft over the road
A front-corner live oak had three limbs on the roof, a long low limb over the driveway and sidewalk, and low growth over the road. From the lift we gave it a medium prune and thin, took the roof limbs back to the tree, shortened and raised the driveway limb and left 15 ft of clearance over the road.
- Three oaks and two magnolias, room for trucks
Three oaks had limbs over the roof, the sidewalk and the road, one growing into a streetlight, and two magnolias were pressing on the house. From the lift we pruned and thinned the oaks, removed deadwood 2 inches and larger and raised the canopies 15 ft for large trucks, working around orchids growing in one oak, then cut the magnolias back from the home.
- Restoration pruning after past over-pruning
The trees had been over-pruned at some point and now had breaks, deadwood, low limbs and limbs over the neighbor’s property. From the lift we cleaned out the breaks and deadwood 2 inches and larger, raised the lower canopy and pulled it back from the neighbor’s side.
What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Pines: dead limbs removed and limbs over the roof cut back.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Arborist oversight
Pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist, and our crews follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. If a tree looks unsafe, a formal risk assessment is available as a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist

Windermere tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Windermere?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Windermere, Orange County and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you open up a lake view without hurting the tree?
Usually. We raise low limbs and selectively thin the canopy so you can see through it, without topping or over-thinning, following ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
