In Orlando, most trimming calls are about mature oaks: limbs resting on the roof or scraping the pool screen, a neighbor’s tree reaching over the house, or deadwood hanging above the driveway before storm season. The answer is rarely to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, take out what’s dead, and leave enough canopy for the tree to stay healthy.
You get a written scope that names each tree and the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Orlando, or go back to our Orlando tree service page.

What we agree before cutting
- Which trees, and why. Each tree on the estimate, with the problem it’s solving: roof contact, screen damage, low limbs or deadwood.
- The clearances. How far limbs come back from the roof, screen, driveway or street, and which limbs are reduced rather than removed.
- The property line. On a shared or neighboring tree, we cut only on your side of the line unless the neighbor has agreed to more.
- Access and cleanup. Lift or climber, where brush goes, and what is hauled away, all spelled out in the written scope.
What a good trim does
Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
Lowers obvious storm hazards. Dead, broken and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
Keeps the tree healthy. Cuts made back to suitable branches, with no topping, lion-tailing or “hurricane cuts.” Why topping hurts trees
Orlando tree trimming projects
A few examples of our tree trimming work around Orlando.
- Neighbor’s oak lifted off the roof, without sidewalling
A neighbor’s oak was reaching over the house. A climber raised it over the roof and made a modest reduction to open a notch, rather than cutting it flat on one side. Other trees were reduced back to the property line, a chinaberry was cut back to help keep squirrels off the roof, and an overgrown corn-plant stand was removed.
- Shared oaks cut back on the owner’s side only
Two oaks on the property line were growing over the roof at the back and front corners. With crane assistance and a climber, we removed the limbs over the owner’s side and roof, leaving everything over the neighbor’s side untouched, and hauled the debris.
- Two semi-mature oaks pruned from the lift
Two semi-mature oaks were pruned from our aerial lift to ANSI A300 standards, with a small reduction on the side facing the house. All debris was cleaned up and removed from the site.
Oak pruning in Orlando
Oaks make up most of our Orlando trimming work, and the right approach depends on the species and the tree’s condition.
- Live oaks: long-lived and strong. A structural and clearance prune keeps heavy limbs off the roof and screen while keeping the canopy full.
- Laurel and water oaks: shorter-lived and more prone to decay. We look closely at old wounds, cavities and the base, and tell you if pruning is no longer the right answer.
- Young and semi-mature oaks: early structural pruning builds a stronger tree and avoids bigger cuts later.
When to trim
Cooler months are a good time for structural pruning on oaks. Clearance and safety work, such as a limb on the roof or a broken branch over the driveway, can be done year-round.
How often depends on the species, how fast it grows and what’s underneath. We’d rather check a tree over a roof more often than cut it hard. Before hurricane season, deadwood and long, heavy limbs over the house are the priority.

Pruning standards and arborist oversight
Our work follows ANSI A300 pruning standards, and pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist. Free estimates cover ordinary trimming. If you want a formal assessment of a tree’s condition, that is a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist
Routine pruning usually doesn’t need a permit, but trees in a public right-of-way and HOA rules can differ, so we’ll check at the estimate.

Orlando tree trimming FAQs
How much does tree trimming cost in Orlando?
It depends on the number of trees, canopy height, access and how much clearance work is needed. Estimates are free, and you get one fixed price in writing before anything is scheduled.
When is the best time to trim oaks in Orlando?
Cooler months are a good time for structural pruning on oaks. Clearance and safety work, like a limb on the roof or a broken branch over the driveway, can be done year-round.
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Orlando?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need one, but trees in a public right-of-way and HOA rules can differ. We’ll check at the estimate, and our work follows ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Can you trim my neighbor’s tree where it hangs over my house?
We can cut back the limbs on your side of the property line. Anything beyond that, or any access through the neighbor’s yard, needs their agreement before the crew arrives.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping and “hurricane cuts” weaken trees and invite decay. We reduce and raise selected limbs back to suitable branches instead.
Do you require a deposit, and are you insured?
No deposits. You don’t pay until the job is 100% complete and you’re satisfied. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and certificates of insurance are available upon request.
