In Bay Hill, most trimming calls are about mature oaks over roofs, driveways and pool enclosures, plus palms that need cleaning up. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Bay Hill, or go back to our Bay Hill tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.
Roof clearance, side-trimming from your own yard and palm cleanup
Completed trimming jobs from our own records, September 2025–October 2026, listed by the city and ZIP code where the work was done: the same property-line, roof and roadway work Bay Hill homes call us for. We never publish customer names or addresses.
- Live oak raised off the roof and streetlight
A 30-inch live oak in the middle of the front yard hung low over the house and grew into the streetlight. From the lift we raised the whole canopy, gave the roof 10 feet of clearance and separated the limbs from the streetlight.
- Climber side-trims oak limbs off the roof
Oak limbs had spread over the whole right side of the house. A climber side-trimmed every limb back so nothing hung over the roof, and we hauled all of the debris.
- Date, Washingtonia, queen and robellini palms
A canary island date palm, two Washingtonias, three queen palms and three robellini clusters around the home all needed old fronds cleared. We trimmed each one, with a climber on the queen palms, and ground an old palm stump.
- Old stub cuts corrected on four trees
Two oaks and two Chinese tallows out front had low limbs, deadwood, heavy moss and stubs left by earlier pruning, and a sycamore and two more tallows needed raising. From the lift we pruned and thinned them, cleaned up the old stub cuts, removed about 60% of the moss in thinned areas and trimmed two sabal palms, using mats and keeping equipment off the septic area.
- Four live oak limbs cleared off the roof
Four limbs from a live oak reached over the left side of the roof. From the lift we took two back to the trunk over the center of the roof and two more off a lead over the front corner.
- Front live oak pruned from the client’s side
A front-yard live oak had low limbs all the way around and deadwood in the canopy, and the neighbor’s yard was off-limits for equipment. From the lift we gave it a medium prune and thin, raised it evenly on all sides and removed deadwood 2 inches and larger, all from the client’s side.
Clearance and view pruning on Bay Hill lots
On Bay Hill’s golf-course and Butler Chain lakefront lots, mature oaks and palms near pool enclosures and roofs need regular clearance work. Lifting the lower canopy and thinning selectively can also open up a view without topping or over-thinning the tree.
A typical scope
- Limbs lifted off the roof and pool enclosure
- Deadwood about 2 inches and larger removed
- Selective thinning to open a view, without lion-tailing
- Palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds
What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Pines: dead limbs removed and limbs over the roof cut back.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Pruning standards
Our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards, with no topping or lion-tailing. Trees in a public right-of-way may need the local government’s permission before they’re pruned, so we’ll check that at the estimate.
Arborist oversight
Pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist, and our crews follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. If a tree looks unsafe, a formal risk assessment is available as a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist

We price by the job, not by the hour. Number of trees, canopy height, access and how much clearance work is needed set the price. Trimming several trees in one visit usually costs less per tree. Estimates are free and come as one fixed price in writing.

Bay Hill tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Bay Hill?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Orange County and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you trim branches away from a pool enclosure or roof?
Yes. We prune back to suitable branches to lift limbs off screens, roofs and fences and remove deadwood that could fall on them, following ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
