In Dr. Phillips, most trimming calls are about mature oaks over roofs, pool enclosures and driveways, and lake views that have closed in. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Dr. Phillips, or go back to our Dr. Phillips tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.
Recent Dr. Phillips trimming jobs
From our own job records, July 2025–July 2026. Listed by ZIP code only. We never publish customer names or addresses.
- Neighboring live oak cut back from the lanai
A large live oak on the neighboring property had leads reaching over the lanai and side yard. From the lift we removed the branches touching the lanai and reduced length and weight over the yard, working only on the owner’s side of the property line, and cut a backyard avocado back to new growth.
- Low lead removed, new drainfield protected
A large low lead on the front-yard tree had to come off, and the septic drainfield in the front yard had just been replaced. With the neighbor’s permission we brought the lift in from their driveway, removed the lead and hauled the debris.
- Canopy raised over the driveway, roof and walk
A front-yard tree had limbs growing down over the driveway, the roof, the yard and the sidewalk, and its lowest limb had a broken branch hanging from it. From the lift we raised the canopy all the way around and removed that bottom limb back to the trunk.
- Four backyard oaks, a cherry laurel and a sabal palm
Four oaks in the back yard had low limbs and deadwood pressing on a sabal palm and a maple, and a cherry laurel was spreading over the yard. We raised and leveled the oak canopies, removed deadwood 2 inches and larger, cut back the yard side of the cherry laurel and trimmed the palm.
- Large front oak raised over the street and walk
A large front-yard oak had big deadwood, a limb growing toward the house and a low canopy over the street, the sidewalk and a magnolia. From the lift we removed the deadwood, took out the limb heading for the house and raised the oak all the way around.
- Four palms cleaned up
Three palms in the back yard and a Sylvester palm out front had old fronds, flowers and seed pods. We trimmed the palms, cleaned the flowers and seed pods out of the Sylvester and hauled the debris.
What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Magnolias: cut back off the house and roof before they cause damage.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Dr. Phillips tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Dr. Phillips?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Orange County, City of Orlando and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you trim branches away from a pool enclosure or roof?
Yes. We prune back to suitable branches to lift limbs off screens, roofs and fences and remove deadwood that could fall on them, following ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
