In Gotha, most trimming calls are about large live oaks over roofs, driveways and the road, plus palms that need cleaning up. The fix isn’t to cut the tree back hard. It’s to raise and reduce the right limbs, clean out what’s dead, and leave the tree full enough to stay strong.
You get a written scope with the clearances we’ll set before anything is scheduled. Is a tree past saving? See tree removal in Gotha, or go back to our Gotha tree service page.

What a good trim does
- Clears the house. Limbs raised and reduced off the roof, gutters, lanai and pool enclosure, so they stop scraping and dropping debris.
- Clears the drive and street. Low limbs lifted over the driveway, sidewalk and road so cars, trucks and pedestrians pass underneath.
- Lowers storm risk. Dead, cracked and poorly attached limbs removed before hurricane season. No tree is storm-proof, but the obvious hazards are gone.
- Keeps the tree healthy. Proper cuts at the branch collar and no topping or lion-tailing, which weaken trees and invite decay.
Big-canopy oak pruning, crown cleaning and palm trimming
Completed trimming jobs from our own records, January 2025–October 2026, listed by the city and ZIP code where the work was done: the same large-oak, pine and big-lot work Gotha properties need. We never publish customer names or addresses.
- Backyard live oak pruned for roof clearance
A large backyard live oak needed clearance above the roof for an insurance requirement. The work included reducing the lowest lead back to new growth, raising branches over the roof and removing large deadwood while retaining growth for recovery.
- Crown cleaning over a pool cage
A large backyard tree reached over the pool cage and carried deadwood, crossing limbs and vines, but the owner wanted to keep the shade. A climber cleaned the whole crown, lifted the limb tips off the cage, removed deadwood 3 inches and larger and took out the vines without harming the bark, then trimmed a queen palm by the house.
- Five pool-side palms cleaned up
Five Washingtonia palms around the pool were full of seed pods and hanging fronds. We trimmed each one to the 10-to-2 position and hauled all of the debris.
- Storm breaks cleared from a heavy oak
After a nearby camphor was taken out, an oak had become heavy over the driveway and had storm-broken limbs in its canopy. Working from the lift and with a climber, we crown-cleaned the oak, removed the storm breaks and deadwood 2 inches and larger, and raised and lightened the lower foliage over the driveway.
- Live oak cleared over two roofs and the road
A front-yard live oak spread over this home, the house next door, both driveways and the road. From the lift we gave it a medium prune and thin, with 6 to 8 feet of clearance over the roofs and 15 feet over the driveways and roadway.
- Elm raised, sycamore and magnolia cleaned up
A drake elm out front hung low, a sycamore had a broken dead limb near the top and sucker growth on its trunk, and a magnolia in back had crowded new growth in the center. From the lift we raised the elm, removed the dead limb and suckers and thinned the magnolia.
Pruning Gotha’s big, old live oaks
Many of Gotha’s oaks are older than the homes beside them, and they often carry heavy horizontal limbs over roofs and drives. The goal is to lift and lighten those limbs a little at a time, remove what’s dead, and keep the canopy full, instead of cutting the tree back hard in one visit.
Most mature oaks do well with a light clearance and deadwood prune every few years.
A typical scope
- Deadwood about 2 inches and larger removed
- Clearance set over the roof, driveway and road
- Heavy limb ends shortened back to a smaller branch
- No topping, no lion-tailing, no stripping the interior
What’s included
- Clearance pruning: roof, lanai, driveway, sidewalk and street clearances set for each tree.
- Deadwood removal: dead limbs, usually 2 inches and larger, taken out of the canopy.
- Structural pruning: weak or crossing limbs reduced and end-weight lightened where it helps, without over-thinning.
- Moss and vines: heavy Spanish moss lightened and vines pulled out of the canopy on request.
- Palms: seed pods and dead or hanging fronds removed, trimmed to the look you want.
Trees we trim most here
- Live oaks: a light structural and clearance prune every 2–3 years.
- Laurel and water oaks: checked more often. They’re shorter-lived and prone to decay, so we look at old wounds and the base.
- Camphors: kept off the roof and fences; they grow fast.
- Palms: queen, sabal and other palms cleaned of seed pods and low fronds.

Pruning standards
Our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards, with no topping or lion-tailing. Trees in a public right-of-way may need the local government’s permission before they’re pruned, so we’ll check that at the estimate.
Arborist oversight
Pruning plans are reviewed by our ISA Certified Arborist, and our crews follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. If a tree looks unsafe, a formal risk assessment is available as a separate paid service. About our ISA Certified Arborist
Pricing
We price by the job, not by the hour. Number of trees, canopy height, access and how much clearance work is needed set the price. Trimming several trees in one visit usually costs less per tree. Estimates are free and come as one fixed price in writing.

Gotha tree trimming FAQs
Do I need a permit to trim trees in Gotha?
Routine pruning done to industry standards usually doesn’t need a permit, but Orange County and HOA rules can differ, especially for trees in a public right-of-way. We’ll check at the estimate, and our crews prune to ANSI A300 standards.
How often should oaks be trimmed?
Mature live oaks often do well on a 2–3 year pruning cycle. Laurel and water oaks, which are shorter-lived and more prone to decay, and any tree hanging over a roof may need a look more often.
Can you trim branches away from a pool enclosure or roof?
Yes. We prune back to suitable branches to lift limbs off screens, roofs and fences and remove deadwood that could fall on them, following ANSI A300 pruning standards.
Do you trim palms?
Yes. We remove seed pods and dead or hanging fronds and trim palms to the look you want, without cutting into the trunk.
What’s included in your cleanup?
Brush is chipped and hauled away, limbs and wood are removed, and hard surfaces are raked and blown.
Are you insured?
Yes. Kevin’s Tree Service carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Certificates of insurance are available upon request.
